Kansas City Chapter of the Fulbright Association presents a ‘National Poetry Month Event’

Launched by the Academy of American Poets in April 1996, National Poetry Month reminds the public that poets have an integral role to play in our culture and that poetry matters. Over the years, it has become the largest literary celebration in the world … marking poetry’s important place in our lives. Source: Poets.org

Our event opens with readings by two established Kansas poets Ronda Miller and Annette Hope Billings.

Annette Hope Billings is an award-winning, Kansas poet known for impactful audible presentations of work. In 2015, after decades as a registered nurse, she began to practice healing through writing full-time. That same year her first collection of poetry, ‘A Net Full of Hope,’ received Topeka’s ARTSConnect’s ARTY

Billings also co-leads a monthly poetry open mic in Topeka’s NOTO Art District called Speak Easy, which was the 2021 recipient of an ArtsConnect ARTY award. Read more about Billings on her poet’s page.

The open mic segment of our event is open to established, and emerging: poets, singers, dancers, comedians, visual artists, writers (fiction and non-fiction), improv, Hip Hop, puppeteers, whatever one wants to showcase in front of a live audience!

Or guests are welcome to just sit back and enjoy the show!

A warm welcome is extended to all globally! No need to be a Fulbright alum.
